We’re excited to announce a new release of FrostWire Plus for Android (1.9.4).

01-frostwire-1.9.4

The user interface upgrades included are part of our roadmap to FrostWire for Android 2.0.

On FrostWire 1.9.4, we added thumb grid views for browsing the pictures and videos on your device.

image-viewer

On past versions of FrostWire, images and videos were displayed in a list view, this meant a lot of scrolling just to see a few pictures or video thumbnails, with the grid views you will have a more efficient way of viewing and managing your media files.

A new feature to accompany the new grid media browsing is a built-in Image Viewer.

You can open an image and on the toolbar menu you will find more actions:
Open, File Information, Set as Wallpaper, Rename, and Share.

The new “File Information” window, is available for all file types.Screenshot_2017-05-20-12-51-47

On the next updates the Image Viewer will continue to improve by including a few more basic features like browsing through the rest your pictures using swipe gestures once you’ve opened an image.

Subtle Design Upgrades

We’ve rewritten our file type selection user interface on FrostWire 1.9.4. using the latest Android APIs available for better performance, we’ve also made subtle changes on the way they look.

What is FrostWire?

FrostWire is a free, open source BitTorrent client first released in September 2004, as a fork of LimeWire. It was initially very similar to LimeWire in appearance and functionality, but over time developers added more features, including support for the BitTorrent protocol and a full blown media player.

Happy Sunday! This week has been very important because significant leaders like Mark Zuckerberg and Pope Francis spoke at the United Nations. And also, today we are releasing a new FrostWire (6.1.5) for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Screen Shot 2015-09-27 at 9.02.47 PM

This update makes FrostWire faster and leaner in memory usage, here’s how.

We fixed Kat Search, Bitsnoop Search, and EZTV search, so now you won’t have any issues when you search. Also, we replaced our HTTP networking engine and FrostWire is now more efficient and reliable than ever when it comes to web connectivity, this means faster and more reliable search results, faster media result previews, faster YouTube, SoundCloud and Archive.org downloads and all of this with less resources from your computer.

We also updated our Java runtime to the latest version (1.8.0 build 60), and removed Radio functionality which had been hard to maintain, not used by many people and not that great as we couldn’t keep up with the station url churn.

If you want to enjoy online radio we recommend you just open your web browser and head to shoutcast.com.

Enjoy your weekend with this new FrostWire. Remember, FrostWire is totally free and you can download it directly our our website FrostWire.com/Downloads

FrostWire, a BitTorrent Client & YouTube Downloader that makes it easier to search, download, play and share content from the BitTorrent network & cloud sources, all in one place, announced today its new ‘preview’ and ‘play as you download’ capabilities for Android phones and tablets. The new preview feature not just enables users with a more convenient way to find and discover content, it makes downloading optional in some cases.

(If you are on Android right now, don’t download it with Chrome, as Google now wants to censor out apps outside of Google Play and it will not open the installer after you download it, use Firefox instead, or a use File Explorer to open the .apk installer after you have downloaded it)

A New FrostWire for Android is Ready for Download!

This new release has a lot of fixes (EZTV, BtJunkie search, torrents issues, crash on audio player), also we upgraded Picasso library for image caching and did a significant update to the jlibtorrent library that improves memory handling and avoids a DDoS attack on the network.

The update is currently being rolled out in stages to a small percentage of users on Google Play so that we can fix any newly introduced bug without impacting the majority of users.

If you feel like you can handle it you can download the installers of build 202 and SourceCode on GitHub for both FrostWire Plus and FrostWire Basic on github.com

This release is all about performance and stability.

Some users have complained about what happens to their internet connection when using FrostWire heavily, so we’ve finally added uTP support to solve these issues.

FrostWire can now deal with bandwidth congestion issues in a way that won’t compromise your internet experience while you use it.

You can, for example, see how FrostWire will automatically adjust its transfer speeds to cede network resources to other programs in your computer, like your web browser while surfing the web or streaming a movie from Netflix.

If the connection is not being used by any other software FrostWire will automatically use as much bandwidth as it can, and you don’t have to do this manually using the existing throttling controls, and all this while not clogging up your router’s memory.

Another benefit of having added uTP is that some WiFi/DSL/Cable routers won’t have issues with packet data overflow when torrenting with FrostWire, which in some cases can completely drop the internet connection forcing you to restart your router to reconnect to the Internet.

We’ve also taken care of very important user experience details, that should make FrostWire easier to understand for new users, as well as smaller usability bugs and crashes that have been fixed.

Here’s the full list of changes.

frostwire (5.7.2) stable; urgency=high
  * uTP support enabled.
  * Multiple crash fixes.
  * UX: playable single file torrents now can be played from transfer list.
  * UX: Fixes UI Thread freeze when opening Options > Search.
  * UX: Better error reporting when a torrent can't be fetched from a
        magnet connection.
  * Spanish translation update by @dennistobar.

Mainstream centralized digital distribution platforms offer content creators means of monetization and discovery for their works, however these centralized systems often impose censorship and are ridden with middlemen which inevitably add up costs that have made it impossible for a digital media micro-tipping economy to be born.

With the combination of peer-to-peer file distribution through the BitTorrent network and peer-to-peer cryptocurrency networks such as Bitcoin, Litecoin and Dogecoin, our community can help bootstrap the largest micro-tipping economy of the Internet by enabling over a quarter of a billion BitTorrent users world wide to support content creators with tips of any amount, no middlemen involved, no chargebacks and no fees so content creators get 100% of the revenue collected, instantly.

With FrostWire 5.7.1 you will be able to attach Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and donation/tipping urls to torrents, as well as Creative Commons, Open Source and Public Domain license metadata.

5.7.1. also improves local Wi-Fi sharing, does updates on search, bug fixes and performance improvements.

Is FrostWire Safe?

FrostWire – free at http://www.frostwire.com – is a file sharing
application and media hub.

FrostWire, as a stand-alone application, is 100% safe to use. FrostWire
itself will not install any viruses, adware, malware or spyware. But is
there a way you can get your computer in trouble while using FrostWire?
Sure.

FrostWire connects to other computers & online servers to find the
content you are looking for. FrostWire does not itself create, host or
control the content it finds on the internet – the same way internet
browsers do not create, host, or control the websites & files you view
and download through them. There are some safeguards in place to
recognize and prevent malicious content from showing up in the search
results, but none are perfect. Before you download a file:

1) Check if the file size makes sense for the content type you wish
to download
2) Check the Source link to see file comments other
users have left on the hosting website and most importantly, if you
are a Windows user and do anything online, always
3) Make sure you have an up-to-date anti-virus software installed
and you check any file you download before opening it.
